I have had a headache the last couple days and haven’t felt like working out — not at all. I haven’t had any other symptoms, really, just a headache. I’m blaming allergies.
Each day I started to rationalize why I shouldn’t work out. And then I ignored myself. Guess what?
At the end of each workout I felt better than I did before I started. Even after the two-hour Zumba/BodyFlow extravaganza I taught last night.
Many times my clients who start their workouts with a whole list of physical complaints end their sessions thanking me because they feel so much better. Next time you’re thinking of ditching a workout because you’re feeling a little off (but you’re not downright sick), make a pact with yourself to have a go at it anyway, and then if you still feel cruddy 10 minutes into it, allow yourself to call it quits for the day.
The workout doesn’t have to be stellar — just do something. I didn’t set any lifting records this week, but I have managed to get in solid back, leg, and chest workouts, as well as the cardio/yoga classes.
Chances are the little endorphin rush you’ll experience will help you feel better. Endorphins are nature’s pain killers, after all!
